Switch 2 Week One: The Accessories Worth Buying First

Switch 2 is new enough that the accessory aisle is still chaos: twenty brands, zero track records, and a launch-window markup on everything. You don't need everything — you need four things, in this order.

The week-one shopping list, in priority order

1. A tempered glass screen protector. The screen is the one component you cannot replace cheaply. A glass protector with an alignment frame takes three minutes to fit perfectly — before the first scratch, not after.
2. A grip case. Joy-Cons are replaceable but expensive, and the console's coating picks up palm sheen fast. A slim hard case with a kickstand adds tabletop mode where the built-in stand is flimsy.
3. A storage case. For anyone who travels with the console, a hard EVA shell is the difference between "bag pocket" and "luggage accident".
4. Everything else can wait. Skins, grips, docks, thumb caps — all optional, all still finding their final form. The first three items protect your money; the rest spends it.

What matters at the point of purchase

• Cutout accuracy: launch-window cases with misaligned vents or speaker holes trap heat. Check photos, not just renders.
• Dock compatibility: if you dock the console, the case needs to come off cleanly — or be thin enough to dock with.
• Kickstand firmness: a stand that flops turns tabletop mode into a balancing act.
