Why MagSafe connections fail

The case is the bottleneck. Every layer between the charger and the phone weakens the magnetic pull. Thick cases, especially with built-in card slots, can cut holding force by half.

Misaligned rings. A case whose magnetic ring sits a millimetre off centre wobbles under vibration — fine on a desk, fatal in a car.

Heat, then death spiral. A weak connection misaligns the charging coil, which generates heat, which throttles charging, which makes you add a stronger magnet, which generates more heat. The mount gets the blame; the case started it.
How to fix it without new hardware

Test bare. Mount the phone without the case. If it holds, the case is the problem.

Thin and aligned beats thick and strong. A slim case with a perfectly centred ring outperforms a chunky one every time.

Watch the temperature. If the phone gets hot while driving, the connection is marginal — reposition or swap the case before the mount fails mid-trip.
